The Love of the First Fruits

We are going to go ahead and jump right in here, let's go first of all to Leviticus 23, Verse 15. This is going to be our introduction, Leviticus Chapter 23 and Verse 15. The Book of Leviticus, Chapter 23 is known as the Festival chapter. I know my bible itself, I mean I could have this thing closed and I kind of flip it like this and it will open up to Leviticus 23 as we go there so often. We are so familiar with it, but if you would turn over with me, we are going to read about the beginning of this Feast. We are going to read about God formally introducing, exactly what he is looking for on this day. In Verse 15 He says and you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the Sheaf of the Wave offering seven Sabbaths shall be completed. That ...

A Tale of Two Mounts

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. With those famous words Charles Dickens began A Tale of Two Cities. It's a story that became one of the bestselling books of all time. Well today we are going to explore A Tale of Two Mounts. It's a story found within the unquestioned bestselling book of all time and that's the Bible. Well many stories start with a short opening preface so before beginning our tale, let's set the stage and we're going to do that by reading from the Prophet Isaiah. Please turn over to Isaiah Chapter 58. Isaiah Chapter 58, we'll start reading in Verse 8 as Isaiah records the words of the Lord. Isaiah 58:8 for my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are my ways your ways my ways declares the Lord for as the heavens are higher than the earth s ...

Clothed With Power From on High

Happy Sabbath, good afternoon everyone, happy Pentecost weekend. So nice to be here with you all but we have counted as we're are instructed 50 days from the wave sheaf offering and here we are. We are on the 7th Sabbath since then so 49 tonight and tomorrow that's 50 and so we'll be keeping Pentecost. In my home we've been counting on a calendar and then we have kind of a countdown on our fridge as well and the kids really enjoy tearing off the days as we get closer. It really builds the anticipation what God instructs us to do leading up to Pentecost and brethren the disciples kept Pentecost in the Book of Acts and they would have had that same anticipation that we feel and probably some extra excitement and anticipation and uncertainty on top of that. Because the disciples were ...

Reprogram Your Mind

So today it is of course Day 42 and we are still counting towards Pentecost. We are almost there, we're one week and about a day, as we're getting ready. The people of God, the body of Christ right now. This is what's on our minds at least I hope it is. There's a reason again, God in doing things, everything with a purpose that we do count that we consider what these days mean to us. The people of God are those who of course act on the knowledge that has been revealed. The people of God, body of Christ, Church of God are defined by more than knowledge of the truth. It's more than just knowing the right thing. Those who act on the knowledge revealed knowing what's right, doing what's right. It is two completely different things and when we discuss the people of God we are talk ...

Burn the Ships

All right now I want to move into the sermon here today. You may have heard this saying, it's really the title of the sermon, but you may have heard the saying Burn the Ships, Burn the Ships and if you haven't heard let me explain. Burning the ships alludes to certain famous incidents where a commander having landed in a hostile country ordered the men in his army to destroy their ships so that they would have to conquer the country or be killed. And there are a number of incidents in history where we see this kind of thing happening. You may have heard the phrase "Burn your bridges". That expression is derived from burning down a bridge after you cross it on a military campaign, which leaves you no choice but to continue into the battle or die. There's no way to escape, you just bur ...

Diligently Add To Your Faith

I appreciated the word being mentioned in the Sermonette several times, diligently, and as Christians we're to be diligent with our calling. The title of the sermon today is Diligently Add to Your Faith. We've been given the gift of faith. We receive that gift of faith when we receive God's Holy Spirit but as we're going to see as we get on into the sermon we have our job to do and it's to add to that faith. Let's talk a little bit as we get into the 50 scriptures I'm not going to use all of. The false doctrine that has been taught in Churchianity today that you're once saved always saved. Now we know that we have to endure to the end. ...

Witnesses to the Ends of the Earth

A Happy Sabbath again, Happy day 21. We're of course counting to Pentecost, we're almost halfway there. It's moving very quickly and I know that I've already mentioned this before but I do love the way that God takes us from one Feast to the next. The way the Plan of God is linked together and each step is pushing us towards the ultimate achievement. We see that right here as we're counting to the Feast of Pentecost. Over the last few weeks and months, we spent hours examining ourselves, evaluating our progress and I'm sure that we all found perhaps things that we need to work on, ways to improve. Ways to be better, knowing we'll have to do that progress report all over again next year. We'll ask ourselves, "Have I made progress, have I taken the greatest leap forward in my ...

God's Government Is Always From the Top Down

All right I want to get into the Sermon here today. I want to cover a topic that might not be popular with some, but this isn't a popularity contest. I feel we need to speak the truth no matter what, regardless of the outcome and so I am going to cover a topic that's not been covered by some for a while. But it's a very important topic and several people have discussed this topic with me in recent months. And we live in a time in human history at the end of the age where there is very little respect for authority. And today I want to talk about government and the Church and what God's form of Church government is and I think that this is something that will be a review for most of you, but for others it may seem a bit self-serving that I'm the guy giving the message on government ...

Trust in God and Stand in Awe!

But I want to begin here in 1st Corinthians 10. Let's go over there, 1st Corinthians 10 in the New Testament, we'll start in Verse 5 and notice what Paul was inspired to write here in this Chapter, 1st Corinthians 10, Verse 5. He says but with most of them and if you at the reference to who the them were he's talking about the ancient Israelites. But with most of them God was not well pleased for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. Now these things became examples to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. So God says, Look, I'm giving these examples in the Bible, in the inspired scripture and these are examples and sometimes in the Bible we see examples of what to do and other times we see examples of what not to do and we can learn a ...

Lessons of the Red Sea

So we are here the Last Day of Unleavened Bread. In preparation for this time the speaking, I pulled up a John Ogwyn sermon back around 1980 and I just love that we can pull up, we can go back into the archives, the HWALibrary and we can access this material. And I love the idea that my father, who worked on the Chesapeake Ohio railroad and he came into the Church in the late 1960s and on in the 70s that his tithes, that he paid way back then are still able to be accessed and the fruit of those tithes and men and women on back in the 50s and 60s that that information is available. And I know we were talking about it last night that that site gets millions of hits a month is what I understand and so I pulled up his sermon and the title of John Ogwyn's sermon was The Meaning of The Last Da ...

The Humble Road To The Promised Land

The Feast of Unleavened Bread has arrived once again and the journey of our lifetime continues. Our life is but a collection of the things that we think, the things that we say and the things that we do. The summation of what we have achieved, what we have accomplished and how far we have come with the gifts and the opportunities that we've been given. How far have we made it on this journey towards the ultimate promised land? The man or woman that you are today, how does it compare with who we were at our initial calling? Two nights ago we remembered the death and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Yeah we also remembered the death and burial of each of us, the reaffirmation of our covenant with him and in our baptism we accepted the tremendous responsibility to live a life, a totally differe ...

The Cleansing Of Our Heart And Mind

I'd like to start out today in Exodus Chapter 12. You know Israel had seen the works of God, they saw the ten plagues in which they would experience three of those plagues before, with the Egyptians before God himself would protect his people for the next seven plagues. They saw basically a nation destroyed because Pharaoh not wanting, not allowing them to leave to go out and worship their God. So I'd like to start in Verse 12 or excuse me Chapter 12 and we'll go from there and it says, now the Lord spoken to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying this month shall be your beginning of months. ...

The Sin of Unbelief

Brethren I'd like to begin here in the Book of Leviticus, Chapters 23 and again you know we, this is a reminder for all of us, this is what it's all about. You know Mr. Armstrong always went back to the trunk of the tree and he always talked about the two trees and sometimes he went "Oh the two trees again" you know, but how many people really got it you know and so this is a reminder that God tells us all the time as these times of the year that we participate in God's Holy day and how beautiful it is that we have come to understand God's plan of Salvation. But right here in Leviticus Chapters 23, I'd like to begin in Verse 9 through 15. ...

Do You Really Believe?

Well Brethren, getting a sermon here when I was a kid growing up in the Church and I came in with my folks. They got a little background here, my folks got divorced in 72 and dad got custody every week and a half, every other week he got custody of me and I started going to church then and then in 74, he got full custody of me, so a little background there and so my dad remarried and I've got a great stepmom, she's awesome and a lot of stuff that I learned, my stepmom and my dad taught me what church-wise and how to live. My mom was there too and she was awesome as well and she taught me rules and taught me the right way to live and everything else but I was very blessed growing up and to be in God's church so early at 10 years old. I'm 59 now if you do the math, but it's gone by ...

What Is The Prophesied Falling Away?

The title of the sermon today is: What is The Prophesied "Falling Away"? and it's a topic that has been under discussion in recent years. There are a number of ideas floating around out there in different organizations regarding this but I want to address the topic kind of head-on and say "Look, what do we believe, what does the Bible teach?" Sometimes when I'm giving a sermon, I'll say "Look this is what we've always taught", I might say "This is what the Bible says" and it's also what we always taught on the topic that we are going to address today and I will try to get in the habit of doing that every time saying not only is it what we taught, but it's borne out very clearly in the scriptures, it's what the Bible shows and what it tells us and so when I cover the topic tod ...
